Building on the success of last summer’s hit Monday night comedy lineup, Showtime will pair the fourth season of original series Weeds with acquisition Secret Diary of a Call Girl in June.
The duo will debut on June 16, with Weeds airing at 10 p.m., followed by Secret Diary of a Call Girl at 10:30 p.m.
Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt said that production on the 13-episode, fourth season of Weeds, which stars Mary Louise Parker as Nancy Botwin, a suburban widow who sells marijuana to support her family, will begin in April. Weeds is Showtime’s highest-rated comedy series.
As for the import from the U.K., Showtime secured the rights to eight installments of Call Girl, which stars Billie Piper (Dr. Who) as a modern woman, who splits her time as Hannah, a secretary by day, and Belle, a high-class London hooker by night.
The series is an IMG/Tiger Aspect/Silverapples Media/ARG production.
Last Aug. 20, Showtime paired the third season of Weeds with Californication, a series in which David Duchovny stars as a transplanted New Yorker with a writing block, a failed relationship and the ability to bed women.
