Suddenlink Crosses Phone Milestone

Operator Rings In With 100,000 Voice Customers

By Mike Farrell -- Multichannel News, 2/19/2008 6:35:00 AM MT

Suddenlink Communications said Tuesday that it has crossed the 100,000-subscriber milestone for its Voice over Internet Protocol telephone service.

Suddenlink had about 30,000 telephone customers at the beginning of 2007. The service is now available in about 80% of the cable company’s operating areas. The company said its phone customers are placing 2.5 million calls per day, more than double the volume handled last August.

When the service was first rolled out, it was primarily available in western Texas. The company now offers phone service across its operating regions, including other parts of Texas, as well as communities in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, West Virginia, North Carolina and California.  More than 90% of Suddenlink’s 1.3 million customers reside in those eight states.

Suddenlink’s Phone service uses IP technology to transport calls over the company’s own, private, managed IP-based network, never traversing the public Internet.

As a standard part of its service, Suddenlink offers unlimited local and domestic long-distance calls, plus a set of popular calling features.  Customers can order Suddenlink Phone service for a standard price of $39.95 per month when bundled with other services.  Suddenlink Phone also provides automatic access to the FCC-mandated Enhanced 911 system and is compatible with most modern alarm monitoring equipment.
