FiOS Expands in Ocean State

Telco Challenges Cox Communications in Rhode Island

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 1/10/2008 9:31:00 AM

Verizon began offering FiOS TV to some 90,000 additional Rhode Island households, doubling its market presence in the state, where Cox Communications is the incumbent cable provider.

The Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers recently granted Verizon approval to offer TV service in Charlestown, Cranston, Foster, Hopkinton, Johnston, Narragansett, North Providence, Providence, Richmond, Scituate, South Kingstown and Westerly. The telco is seeking video franchises for another 10 communities.

FiOS TV is already available to more than 80,000 households in seven Rhode Island communities, as well as 12 other states.
