Rentrak announced deals with eight operators for its video-on-demand measurement system, bringing the company’s roster of customers to more than 80.
With the new operators -- BendBroadband, Blue Ridge Communications, Buckeye CableSystem, EATEL, En-Touch Systems, GVTC, Massillon Cable TV and MetroCast Cablevision -- Rentrak said it now counts all but four of the top 25 cable operators that have on-demand offerings as customers for its OnDemand Essentials platform.
Other Rentrak customers include Comcast, Cablevision Systems, Charter Communications, Suddenlink Communications, Bresnan Communications and Verizon Communications.
Rentrak said it processed more than 3.3 billion transactions from operators last year, up 52% from 2006.
“As the On Demand platform continues to experience double-digit growth and content providers are seeking more timely data to capitalize on the platform, more and more operators are turning to Rentrak to meet their measurement needs,” said Rentrak vice president of business development Carol Hinnant in a statement.
Time Warner Cable is the largest cable operator that does not use the Rentrak system. The MSO this week launched TWOnDemand.com, a Web site that lets customers browse through video-on-demand titles and lists the most popular titles in some categories in a given ZIP code.
Rentrak faces new competition in its core business from Nielsen, which last week commercially launched a measurement service that aggregates VOD usage from set-tops, with Comcast as its first customer.
