Verizon Communications added three more notches on its FiOS TV belt: The telco announced Tuesday that the towns of Richmond, Va.; Tuckahoe, N.Y.; and Wilmington, Mass., granted cable franchises to allow the rollout of its multichannel-video service.
Verizon’s franchise for Richmond, the capital of Virginia, covers 86,000 homes. The telco was already offering FiOS TV to about 20,000 households in the city under a provisional franchise granted in December. By 2017, according to Verizon, it will offer FiOS TV to at least 80% of Richmond households.
Tuckahoe, a New York suburb in Westchester County, voted Monday night to approve FiOS TV, giving Verizon 28 communities in New York that have granted cable franchises.
Meanwhile, Wilmington, with 6,500 households, is the 42nd community in Massachusetts where FiOS TV is or will soon be available. Verizon currently offers FiOS TV to more than 200,000 households in the state.
