Queen Latifah Backs Lifetime Public Service Campaign

Music Star Shoots Spots for ‘Every Woman Counts’ Voting Campaign

By Linda Haugsted -- Multichannel News, 12/3/2007 6:52:00 AM

Queen Latifah joined Lifetime’s Every Woman Counts campaign as one of the public faces of the get-out-the-vote campaign.

The movie and music star will record spots during her “The Trav’lin’ Light Concert Tour,” asking women to complete the phrase “If I were president, I would ...” The broadband vignettes will be displayed at myLifetime.com.

“It doesn’t matter what party the women I talk to are affiliated with; we just want to make sure that women, 52% of the population, get the opportunity to get their point across because they are shaping our country’s future,” Latifah said in a prepared statement.

Along with Latifah’s interviews, Lifetime is interviewing celebrities, political candidates and other thought leaders and posting the content at myLifetime.com, with the goal of collecting one million responses on-camera, online and via postcard on issues in which women are most interested. The responses will be delivered to newly elected officials in January 2009.
