ImaginAsian Entertainment will get a boost in funding and content for the ImaginAsian TV network via a deal with Japan-based Fujisankei Communications Inc.
Fujisankei, a subsidiary of Fuji Television Network, will make an undisclosed financial investment in ImaginAsian, which distributes the 4 million-subscriber ImaginAsian cable outlet.
Fujisankei also will provide ImaginAsian multiple hours of programming in the form of news and entertainment content, including popular Japanese dramas and variety shows from Fuji Television.
“We are very pleased to have joined forces with a partner that has a solid understanding of this industry and the foresight to take the necessary steps to grow the market,” Akifumi Takuma of FCI said in a release. “We have been in this market for a substantial number of years and see this as a natural next step.”
The investment/content deal is the second in five months for ImaginAsian. Last August Korean-based entertainment company Sidus Corp. invested some $20 million in ImaginAsian in an effort to expand the company’s U.S. basic cable, video-on-demand and theatrical operations.
“For the first time, there is a collaborative effort to create a cohesive and efficient market place for advertisers in Asian American media,” Augustine Hong, chairman and CEO of ImaginAsian, said in the release. “I am very proud that IA, along with Fujisankei, Sidus, and other significant partners that will soon be announced are leading this charge.”
