Legendary Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez will be the subject of ESPN Films’ first ever Spanish-language film debuting Saturday, Sept. 27 on ESPN Deportes and ESPN Classic.
JCChávez will highlight the ring feats of Chávez, a multiple champion in several weight classes through the 1980s and 1990s and undisputedly one of the best Latino boxers of all times, as part of the company’s Hispanic Heritage Month programming line-up.
The film, which features interviews with Chávez’s family and friends as well as boxers Mike Tyson and Oscar De La Hoya, will air on ESPN Deportes in Spanish with Spanish graphics and ESPN Classic in Spanish with English subtitles and graphics.
ESPN Home Entertainment, in conjunction with Genius Products, L.L.C., will release a DVD version of the movie three days later.
“Julio Cesar Chávez is one of the most beloved boxing icons of all times.” said Eric Conrad, director of programming and acquisitions, ESPN Deportes. “We are excited to have the opportunity to present ESPN Film’s first Spanish-language films in primetime. His story resonates not only with his countrymen, but with all who have worked hard to be the best at their craft.”
