QVC said Friday it plans to launch a high-definition version of the home-shopping channel in the first quarter of 2008.
Asked if the Liberty Media-owned channel, which generates $7 billion in annual revenue, had any HD carriage deals, QVC senior vice president of affiliate sales and marketing Al Ulozas said in a statement: “We have had preliminary communication with our major distributors, and they have responded very favorably, but it is too early to expect any commitments at this stage. Over the next few months, we will be meeting with all of our affiliates to discuss their carriage of QVCHD.”
QVC said this announcement comes amid other changes at the channel. QVC has been updating its “storefront” with fresh sets and new graphics as part of a multi-tiered brand campaign, launched in September. The brand launch – QVC’s first-ever national campaign in its 21-year history – is one of several initiatives the company is undertaking to continue the evolution from a TV shopping channel into one of the world’s leading multimedia retailers.
