MobiTV Hires New CEO

Joining Mobile Video Provider Oct. 15, Industry Veteran Nooney Succeeds Alvelda

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 10/1/2007 9:04:00 AM MT

MobiTV has appointed Charlie Nooney, formerly president of Thomson’s Technicolor Network Services division, as chief executive officer.

Nooney, who starts Oct. 15, replaces founding CEO Phillip Alvelda, who will remain MobiTV’s chairman.

Emeryville, Calif.-headquartered MobiTV provides live television, video-on-demand and digital music services to mobile-phone and Internet users. The privately held company’s customers include Sprint Nextel and Pivot, the joint venture between Sprint and Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable and Advance/Newhouse Communications.

In a statement about the appointment, Alvelda said: "Our goal was to find an executive who could lead a complex business spanning technology, telecom and media. We pursued only the very best candidates with proven track records in scaling mid-to-large businesses with aggressive profitability goals. Charlie exceeded our expectations at every turn."

Prior to Thomson, Nooney was CEO of Premier Retail Networks, an in-store television network provider that was sold to Thomson in 2005. Before PRN, he spent 15 years with Disney/ABC Cable Networks, most recently as executive vice president of affiliate sales and marketing.
