TBS now has a pair of comedy festivals on its schedule.
The “very funny’ service has reached a deal with Just For Laughs for a five-day event that will take place in Chicago in the summer of 2009. Terms of the agreement, brokered by CAA, were not disclosed. Just For Laughs produces the world’s largest comedy fest, the Montreal Comedy Festival, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2007.
TBS also announced that it was back on board with AEG Live for the fourth annual The Comedy Festival from Las Vegas this November.
Ellen DeGeneres, who presented Ellen’s Really Big Show from last year’s edition of The Comedy Festival has once again signed up to present variety specials from both events. Telepictures Productions will produce both specials for TBS.
“After three successful years of serving as the presenting sponsor of The Comedy Festival in Las Vegas, we’re ready to dive into the festival arena full force. We’re taking a leading role with Just For Laughs for an exciting new summer event in Chicago and with AEG Live on the Las Vegas event,” said Turner Entertainment Networks president Steve Koonin in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier that the enormously talented and always funny Ellen DeGeneres is on board for both. These events are a perfect opportunity for TBS to showcase some of the best talents in the comedy industry and to expand the reach of our brand in exciting new ways.”
