HBO and Comcast Corp. are working with the Virginia Film Office to host the premiere of the premium channel’s historical miniseries John Adams in that state.
The series, produced by Tom Hanks and starring Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney, was filmed on location in Williamsburg and the greater Richmond, Va. area, as well as Europe.
The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation co-operated with the production and allowed filming on the 301-acre historical site of restored buildings. The film office and the state's tourism office were actively involved with the production.
The invitation-only premiere will be March 9 in Richmond's historic Byrd Theater, and will be attended by the state's governor, Timothy Kaine, producers Hanks and Gary Goetzman and David McCullough, the Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer of the nation's second president.
The miniseries will debut on cable March 16 with back-to-back episodes.
