FCC Proceeds With Transition Test As Hannah Passes Through Area

The Federal Communications Commission will proceed with the early market test of the digital television transition in Wilmington, N.C. on Monday Sept. 8.
The agency decided to proceed after a telephone conference with the area's broadcasters Sunday. The transition was in doubt because the FCC had promised to halt the test if the community was threatened by a hurricane.
Tropical storm Hanna has passed through the area, leaving flooding but the storm was not as damaging as meteorologists had feared. The next storm, Hurricane Ike, is on track to move into the Gulf of Mexico, missing the East Coast.
Wilmington broadcasters are scheduled to cease analog broadcasts at noon Monday.
