Time’s Sports Illustrated Group signed a deal with sister company Time Warner Cable to launch a video-on-demand channel -- timed to coincide with the magazine’s annual swimsuit issue -- that will offer content from Sports Illustrated and the group’s other assets, including Golf magazine.
“SI On Demand” will debut Feb. 14 on Time Warner Cable’s Free On Demand service, which is available in more than 7 million homes.
Ad sales for SI On Demand will be jointly handled by Sports Illustrated and Time Warner Cable Media Sales. Toyota Motor Sales will be the channel’s yearlong “presenting sponsor,” while men’s-deodorant maker Axe will sponsor the SI Swimsuit subchannel at launch.
On the swimsuit front, the VOD channel will provide video clips and behind-the-scenes footage of “the world’s most beautiful supermodels posing at spectacular locations around the world,” the companies said in their announcement.
Besides bikini-clad women, SI On Demand will feature instructional sports videos, including a series from Golf magazine. Additional sports-related content will roll out throughout the year, the companies said.
“SI On Demand demonstrates how Time Warner companies work together to leverage their content and distribution,” Time Warner Cable senior vice president of on-demand and interactive TV Bob Benya said in a prepared statement.
