CNN, Time Magazine Will Oversee Two-Day Event

Time Warner Inc. will present "Politics 2008 – The Media Summit on the Election of the President"– a special event co-hosted by CNN and Time magazine Oct. 13 and 14.

For this two-day event at the Time Warner Center in Manhattan, the media conglomerate is inviting leading media organizations and analysts, political insiders and pundits for a series of keynotes, conversations and panel events on topics ranging from the media’s roles and responsibilities in covering the campaign and election to how the digital revolution has changed the race for the White House.

“There is unprecedented interest in the 2008 presidential campaign for many historic reasons—this is a wide-open race with no incumbent, the country is at war, and the economy is challenged,” Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes said in a statement. “That makes it a perfect time for us to present Politics 2008, which will bring together many of the country’s most astute political observers to help shape the national conversation about this extraordinary moment in history.”

Scheduled for the two days preceding the presidential candidates’ debate at Hofstra University, Politics 2008 will explore a range of topics. Panels currently on the agenda include:

*"A Democratic Administration:  Speculation on the Next Four Years: The Implications of Party Victory on Foreign and Domestic Policy & State of the Nation"

*"A Republican Administration:  Speculation on the Next Four Years: The Implications of Party Victory on Foreign and Domestic Policy & State of the Nation"

*"Defining the American Experience;  The State of the Global Superpower – How the World Sees Us and How We See the World"

*"The Changing Face of News: The Power, The Influence and the Challenge of the Technologies"

*"Puppet Masters and Policy Maestros:  Analyzing the Brains and Architects of Modern Campaigns"

*"Digital Politics:  The Game Changer of 2008; Personal Interactivity, Email Money Bombs and Delivering the Message."

Politics 2008 will present the perfect cross-section of ideas and information from our industry's thought leaders,” Victor Harwood, president of Digital Hollywood, producer of Politics 2008, said in a statement.  “This kind of election is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and our challenge is to provoke thoughtful conversation and inspire leadership equal to the task.”

Keynote speakers, panelists and other conference participants will be announced in the coming weeks.
