Intellon Provides HomePlug Chips for DirecTV On Demand

Intellon said it is supplying integrated-circuit solutions for powerline-based home networking forDirecTV's video-on-demand service scheduled to launch this fall.
Intellon will provide HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo powerline communications chips, embedded in a HomePlug powerline-to-Ethernet adapter manufactured by TII Network Technologies
The HomePlug adapter will allow DirecTV subscribers who sign up for DirecTV On Demand to connect HR20 digital set-top boxes to the Internet to download movies, music, TV shows and other content.
“DirecTV is pleased to offer the HomePlug option to consumers,” said chief technology officer Romulo Pontual, in a statement. “Our new DIRECTV On Demand service is designed for ease of use and HomePlug supports that objective by enabling a simple installation process.”
