Time Warner Cable Lifts Witmer

Operator Promotes Chief Programming Officer To EVP

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 11/28/2007 5:18:00 AM

Time Warner Cable has elevated Melinda Witmer.

The nation’s second-largest cable operator has promoted Witmer to executive vice president and chief programming officer. Most recently senior vice president and chief programming officer, Witmer will continue to lead Time Warner Cable's programming acquisition team, reporting to senior executive vice president Rob Marcus.

“Melinda has long been an outstanding programming dealmaker and strategist, and over the last year she has proven to be an exceptional leader as well. Under her leadership, our programming team has successfully completed a wide range of content-acquisition deals,” said Marcus in a statement. “She has also completed an impressive restructuring of her department, making it more responsive to the individual needs of our content partners and our operating divisions. She and her team are highly regarded in the industry for their willingness to look at new avenues.”

Before taking on her role as senior vice president in Time Warner Cable’s programming department, Witmer was vice president and chief counsel for programming. In that role she oversaw a team of lawyers that handled all matters related to programming and played an important role in the negotiation of the Company’s programming deals.

Prior to joining the operator, Witmer served as vice president and senior counsel at sister company Home Box Office, where she worked from 1994 to 2001. Earlier, Witmer was an associate with the law firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, working in both their New York and Los Angeles offices.
