'Hannah' Hands Disney Channel 5.5 Million Viewers

Third-Season Debut Marks Best Performance In 15 Months

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 11/4/2008 8:30:00 AM MT

Hannah Montana’s third-season debut started off strongly.

The Disney Channel show’s Nov. 2 debut attracted 5.5 million viewers during its 8 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. time slot, some 2 million more than the series’ sophomore-season starter, according to Nielsen Media Research data. That made the Miley Cyrus-starrer cable’s top entertainment program for the week of Oct. 27 through Nov. 2, according to network officials.

Included in that total were 2.6 million kids 6 to 11 and 2.4 million tweens 9 to 14. Those performances were tops in those demos during the aforementioned span, and represented gains of 1 million over the second-season debut with the first group and 800,000 with the latter.

All told, Sunday night’s premiere ranked as the series' fifth-highest among total viewers, fourth best with kids 6 to 11 and sixth against tweens.

Moreover, the installment ranked as the series’ most-watched telecast in over year -- since a Hannah episode was the lead-out of premiere of telepic High School Musical 2 on Aug. 17, 2007. The original movie, when measured on live + seven-day basis, is cable’s top show ever, with more than 18.6 million watchers.

That Montana episode still stands as cable’s No. 1 original series telecast, garnering 10.7 million total viewers, 4.1 million kids 6 to 11 and 4.2 million tweens, according to Disney Channel executives.
