Cox to Launch CNET TV VOD Service

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 5/1/2006 11:59:00 AM

Digital-technology-news provider CNET Networks will launch a video-on-demand service on Cox Communications Inc. systems in early June following a trial run with TiVo Inc.’s digital-video-recorder service, the company said Friday afternoon.

Cox confirmed Monday that a deal was reached with CNET, adding that the service will launch in all of its VOD-enabled markets this summer except New England and Orange County, Calif., which will be added by year-end. On-demand content distributor TVN Entertainment Corp. is also partnering in the CNET TV venture, and CNET said retailer Best Buy Co. Inc. will be a charter sponsor at launch.

CNET currently offers videos on various Web sites, including CNET.com (www.cnet.com), News.com (news.com.com) and Download.com (www.download.com). Video content was described as ranging from “instructional to informative to entertaining.”
