A lot of people caught the third-season premiere of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch.
The April 3 debut of the show -- which tracks the sometimes-deadly travails of Alaskan-king-crab fishermen in the Bering Sea -- averaged a 2.3 Nielsen Media Research household rating versus a 1.8 for the second-season debut.
All told, the third-season bow grew 30% to 3.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen data. Moreover, the show was up 47% among men 25-49, Discovery officials said.
For the night, Discovery executives said, Deadliest Catch was basic cable’s top show among households (tied with ESPN’s coverage of Tennessee’s triumph over Rutgers for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship), adults 25-54, men 25-54, women 25-54, adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49.
