ESPN 360 Nears Cable Deals

Live Games Generates Interest In Broadband Servce

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 8/30/2007 7:34:00 AM

Bristol, Conn. – ESPN 360’s push toward more live games has captured the attention of cable operators and could soon result in carriage deal for the revamped broadband service.

ESPN president George Bodenheimer, speaking to reporters at ESPN Media Day Thursday, expressed confidence that the sports giant would be able to sign a deal or two soon. He didn’t name potential affiliates or a time frame for striking deals.

“It’s about the games. The live games have increased the attention level,” Bodenheimer said.

Added executive vice president of content John Skipper: "When you have content people want to see, [distributors] will make it available."

Skipper noted that ESPN 360’s new calling card includes a host of live college football and basketball games, as well as other content such as cricket, Venezuelan baseball, Australian Rules Football, among others.
