Comcast Shakes Up Regional Operations, Execs

Eliminates Midwest Division; Eastern Head Doyle Steps Down

By Mike Farrell -- Multichannel News, 7/7/2008 9:36:00 AM

Comcast has pared its five operating divisions down to four, eliminating its Midwest division headquartered in Michigan in a company restructuring.

According to Comcast officials, the restructuring was made to better align its divisions geographically. For example, the states formerly in the Midwest division will be split among three different regions—Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn., Wisconsin, Kansas and Missouri will now be part of the West division; Houston, Texas will become part of the South division and Illinois, Indiana and Michigan will become part of the North Central division.

Also as part of the restructuring, Midwest division president William Connors (left) will move to Pennsylvania to head up the Eastern division, which includes Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and North Carolina. Eastern division president Michael Doyle will leave the company.

Doyle, who founded Comcast’s local news operation CN8 (pictured with his wife, Lynn, a popular anchor at the channel), discussed other senior level positions with Comcast, according to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer, but decided to leave the company. The CN8 operation will now report to Comcast Programming Group president Jeff Shell. Lynn Doyle will continue at CN8, the Inquirer said.

Connors, a 22-year cable vet, was most recently senior vice president of Comcast’s Atlanta region. Previously he served as Western region vice president for AT&T Broadband’s Greater Chicago market, and general manager and director of customer operations at Continental Cablevision and MediaOne in Florida and Chicago.
