Cable Networks Set College-Football Slates

FSN, Versus, Big Ten Network Await Kickoff

By Jason Braff -- Multichannel News, 6/20/2007 12:51:00 PM

As college-football fans anxiously await the 2007 season kickoff Aug. 30, cable networks revved the allegorical engine by announcing their schedules this week -- many of which will be broadcast in HD.

FSN said Wednesday that it will air 31 college-football games this coming season, 20 of which will be broadcast in HD.

The announcement came exactly two weeks after FSN agreed to sublicense games to Versus after that network’s five-year sublicense deal with Turner Sports expired. Versus announced last week that it will air 18 games this season.

“Versus is a good fit for this package, and FSN looks forward to partnering with them to nationally televise football from two of the premier conferences in the country,” FSN executive director of college sports Jeremy Langer said in a prepared statement.

FSN -- the cable home for Pacific-10 and Big 12 college-football games -- will air 13 Pac 10 matchups and 18 Big 12 matchups. Dr. Pepper will sponsor eight of the Big 12 games, and Kyocera will sponsor 13 Pac 10 games, 10 Big 12 games and the weekly College Football Saturday Kickoff show hosted by Mike Greenberg and D’Marco Farr.

FSN’s college-football schedule kicks off when Colorado State visits Colorado Sept. 1.

As part of its sublicense deal with FSN, Versus gets five Pac-10 games and five Big 12 games to add to its already-existing lineup of eight Mountain West Conference games. Versus begins coverage Sept. 1 when Virginia visits Wyoming at 2 p.m.

The yet-to-launch Big Ten Network, which announced its schedule for the first three weeks of September, is scheduled to provide an update.
