Cablevision Unveils 2009 Rate Hikes

HD, Data and Phone Stay Steady

By Mike Farrell -- Multichannel News, 10/29/2008 10:03:00 AM

Cablevision Systems will raise rates for cable television service an average of 3.5% in 2009, but for the sixth year in a row will hold fast on pricing for its high-speed data and telephony service.

At 3.5%, the Cablevision rate hike is below the 4.5% current rate of inflation, a benchmark the Bethpage, N.Y.-based MSO has managed to stay below for several years. The new rates will take effect over the next few months, depending on the customer’s specific location and billing cycle.

Cablevision said that pricing for its triple play package of voice, video and data also will remain unchanged—under $90 per month during a one-year introductory period. That pricing has held steady since 2004.

Cablevision provides service to about 3.1 million customers in the New York metropolitan area.
