Blonder Tongue to Sell Cable Subsidiary

Citing a shift in business strategy, Blonder Tongue Laboratories hired an investment bank to help it sell off its 90% stake in a Texas-based cable system.
Blonder Tongue, a longtime provider of TV-delivery technology, created its BDR Broadband cable subsidiary in 2002 to collect the handful of cable-television systems Verizon had placed on the block. The acquired systems now pass 8,100 homes and count 3,300 video and high-speed-data customers, which Blonder Tongue used as a showcase for its multi-dwelling-unit communications technology.
But Blonder Tongue now believes it doesn’t need that showcase, and by selling BDR, it can focus on its technology products and transition of its manufacturing operations to China.
“We have also developed a better appreciation of the particular needs and challenges that face system operators and have reinforced our existing knowledge of what the customer needs from an equipment standpoint,” Blonder Tongue chairman and CEO James A. Luksch said.
