Nickelodeon, MTVN To Launch Three New Mobile Web Sites

Sites Target Kids, ‘Tweens’ And Parents Using Wireless Devices

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 3/20/2008 5:36:00 AM

Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group Wednesday announced the debut of three new mobile Web sites featuring branded content and information designed for kids and teens accessing the Internet with their various mobile devices.

The Nick mobile Web site features easy-to-access, kid-oriented content including pictures, flipbooks, polls, show and scheduling information and more than 25 games tailored for kids. It also includes voting capabilities for users to vote for Nickelodeon’s 2008 Kids’ Choice Awards, scheduled for March 29.

Launching next month, The N mobile Web site caters to teens with a mobile version of Rank and other popular games as well as the daily N’Sider blog, personality quizzes and content related to shows such as Degrassi, About A Girl and Saved By The Bell.

Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group will also launch a parent-themed mobile site in the third quarter, building off of the content from its ParentsConnect Web site. It will offer daily parenting tips, activities, product reviews and access to GoCityKids.com, a local guide to restaurants, playgrounds and events in their communities.

“Our goal…is to create content on all media platforms for our audiences in order to deepen engagement with them,” Steve Youngwood, executive vice president for MTVN/Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group’s digital media group, said in a statement. “Wireless is a growing interactive platform and screen for both kids and families.”

Nielsen’s 2007 “Kids on the Go Study” found that “tweens” between eight and 12 years of age spend 3.4 hours a week on a mobile Web site.

Last year, MTV Networks said its mobile Web sites garnered more than 16.3 million page views.
