Rentrak has lined up another customer for its on-demand measurement service, doing a deal with Rogers Cable Communications, Canada’s largest cable operator, officials said Monday.
The agreement with Rogers Cable provides Rentrak’s existing U.S.-based content-provider customers with performance data from Canadian operators.
Rogers Cable, a subsidiary of Rogers Communications, offers an extensive line-up of digital and HDTV programming, time-shifting and on-demand services including video on demand, subscription VOD and personal video recorders. Rogers Cable also provides customers with high-speed Internet access and cable telephony services.
“Data analytics are critical to making advertising-supported VOD a reality in Canada,” David Purdy, Rogers Cable’s vice president of video product management, said in a prepared statement. “Rentrak will help enable Canadian broadcasters to build out their business models in order to offer ad-supported, primetime, main-network, episodic programming on VOD to our customers.”
Rentrak provides census-level viewership performance information for the on-demand platform and processes daily, on-demand data representting 45 million set-top boxes from 25 MSOs with their extensive data being used by more than 90 networks and studios.
OnDemand Essentials, a service of Rentrak’s Advanced Media & Information Division, provides operators, content providers (including broadcast/cable networks, studios) and advertisers with a transactional tracking and reporting system to view and analyze on-demand content.
