Se; TV Readies New Reality Series

Laura Martínez -- Multichannel News, 2/19/2008 6:52:00 AM

Sí TV is the latest Hispanic network to join the beauty pageant fray with its upcoming Model Latina, a talent search competition offering Latinas ages 18-25 a shot at stardom.

Similar to Univision’s Nuestra Belleza Latina, now on its second year, Model Latina has launched a nationwide search of young Hispanic women.

Auditions kicked off Feb. 18 in New York City, and will be followed by Miami (Feb. 21) and March 8 at Sí TV’s Los Angeles studios.

The 13-episode series is scheduled to premiere in July and it will feature 10 young women that live together, and face a series of challenges. Cover Girl and Payless Shoe Source are on board as sponsors.

The ultimate Model Latina will receive national TV exposure on Sí TV and coverage in the November issue of Latina magazine, which has partnered with the network. The New York-based bilingual magazine already features a video promo on its Web site (www.Latina.com) calling on Latinas who have “Beauty, brains and bravado” to take part in the competition.

In addition to the partnership with Latina magazine, Sí TV has enlisted Ziddio.com, the YouTube-style video and community site, which is also urging young Hispanic girls to take part in the competition.

According to the companies, three of the 10 aspiring contestants will be voted on via Ziddio.com. The other seven will be discovered during the live auditions, currently underway.
