Cablevision's Optimum Lightpath Buys N.J. Fiber Provider

Acquisition of 4Connections Adds 494 Route Miles of Fiber to Business Services Unit

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 10/21/2008 6:54:00 AM

Optimum Lightpath, Cablevision Systems’ business communications unit, announced Tuesday that it has completed the acquisition of 4Connections, a provider of dark-fiber network services in New Jersey.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Parsippany, N.J.-based 4Connections will expand the Optimum Lightpath network by adding 494 route miles—49,254 actual miles—of fiber in 10 counties across New Jersey. The acquisition increases the number of on-net buildings in New Jersey by approximately 20%.

Optimum Lightpath now has more than 3,694 route miles of fiber in the ground and 3,060 lit commercial buildings in the three-state New York metropolitan area.

The deal lets the Cablevision division extend services “to businesses in suburban business centers or remote, branch and back offices within New Jersey,” said Dave Pistacchio, Optimum Lightpath executive vice president and general manager.

Under terms of the agreement 4Connections will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Optimum Lightpath, which officially took over ownership and daily management of the company on Oct. 17.

The existing management team and employees will remain based in Parsippany. Cablevision would not disclose how many employees 4Connections has.

Founded in 2001, 4Connections serves customers in multiple sectors including in the financial services, government, education and healthcare markets in New Jersey’s Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, Union, Hudson, Essex, Morris, Bergen, Ocean and Passaic counties.

Lightpath offers Internet and voice services, with data speeds ranging from 5 Megabits per second to 1 Gigabit per second.
