Rogers Named TiVo CEO

By Steve Donohue -- Multichannel News, 6/27/2005 5:23:00 PM

Former NBC Cable and Primedia Inc. chief Tom Rogers was named president and CEO of TiVo Inc. Monday.

Rogers -- who had been a strong proponent for TiVo since overseeing NBC’s investment in the firm several years ago -- was appointed vice chairman of TiVo last fall. He succeeds TiVo cofounder Mike Ramsay as CEO.

During an interview in March -- shortly after Rogers helped TiVo to seal a distribution deal with Comcast Corp. -- Rogers said he wasn’t interested in taking the CEO post, noting that he didn’t want to relocate from New York to TiVo’s headquarters in Aliviso, Calif.

TiVo said Monday that Rogers will split his time between his home in New York and its headquarters.

Comcast -- which plans to deploy Motorola Inc. set-tops running the TiVo user interface and software next year -- is the only major cable operator that has agreed to market TiVo’s time-shifted TV service.

But Rogers said on a conference call Monday that TiVo is talking with other major MSOs.

“We clearly have been approached since that Comcast deal by others who are looking to put in place similar arrangements, and we are in those discussions,” he added.
