AT&T Will Collect Cable-Modem Fees
-- Multichannel News, 2/12/2001
LOS ANGELES-AT&T Broadband officials told regulators here that it will continue to collect franchise fees on cable-modem revenue pending a final legal resolution of the controversial issue.
The city refused the operator's request to waive the fee, even though collecting it could cause legal problems given last year's U.S. appeals court ruling that said data delivery is not a cable service.
AT&T Broadband officials could not be reached for further comment at press time.
