TV Guide Goes Mobile with Cingular

By Karen Brown -- Multichannel News, 4/13/2006 5:23:00 PM

TV Guide Mobile Entertainment is getting the picture on Cingular Wireless’ new broadband-video service, striking a deal to provide TV Guide Channel clips to wireless subscribers.

Financial terms were not released, but under the deal, Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. will provide on-demand clips from its TV Guide Channel content to Cingular Video. It also banks on Gemstar-TV Guide’s release late last year of its TV Guide Mobile content lineup, which is now available through several carriers.

A related agreement with Cingular also calls for Gemstar-TV Guide to provide more content products beamed to Cingular handsets going forward.

"Enhancing the personal mobile-entertainment experience of Cingular users across the country is in keeping with our strategy to integrate the TV Guide brand, content and technology across multiple platforms,” said Rich Cusick, Gemstar-TV Guide’s senior vice president and general manager of digital media.
