Gracie Award Winners Named

Several Cable Networks Recognized by American Women in Radio and Television

A total of 25 national and local cable programs and their principals were among the Gracie Allen Award winners named by American Women in Radio and Television Tuesday.

Programming winners include Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy and The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life Is Not a Fairy Tale on Lifetime Television (outstanding dramas-specials); Campus Ladies on Oxygen (outstanding comedy series); The Suze Orman Show on CNBC (outstanding talk show); and Women at War: Coming Home on WE tv (outstanding special-drama).

Programming on ESPN (Outside the Lines), CNN (Paula Zahn Now special Dana Reeve: A Tribute), Nickelodeon/MTV Networks (Nick News: Celebrating 15 Years of Nick News) and Bloomberg TV (The Ethanol Fix: Breaking America’s Addiction to Oil) also won Gracies.

Individual-achievement Gracies are going to FX’s Rescue Me supporting actress Marisa Tomei; Court TV host Jami Floyd; TNT’s The Closer producer Greer Shephard; TBS’ My Boys female lead actor Jordana Spiro; CNN news producer A. Chris Gajilan and anchor Soledad O’Brien; MSNBC news producer Tammy Haddad; Style host Niecy Nash; and Phyllis Nagy, who directed Mrs. Harris on HBO.

Other Gracies went to HBO for a Wanda Sykes comedy special, the Cinemax Reel Life documentary God Sleeps in Rwanda and the biographical portrait Billie Jean: Portrait of a Pioneer. Oxygen Media won a Gracie for two commercials, Supersize the Supermodel and the Tresstify campaign.

Cablevision-owned News 12 Long Island (soft news feature Girl with the Apple) and News 12 Connecticut (news producer Melissa LaPointe) also won Gracies.

The national awards will be given out at a black-tie gala Monday, June 18, at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel.
