Texas Instruments Intros DOCSIS 3.0 Silicon

Puma 5 Chip Set to Deploy Early Next Year

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 5/7/2007 12:05:00 AM

Texas Instruments Monday is expected to announce Puma 5, a chip set that supports Cable Television Laboratories’ Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification 3.0 for high-speed data.

TI said the Puma 5, based on a digital-signal processor, is optimized for Internet-protocol voice, data and video services and supports home-networking features. The vendor added that products incorporating Puma 5 will deploy early next year with full production ramp in the second quarter of 2008.

Two of TI’s big rivals in the DOCSIS chip space, Broadcom and Conexant Systems, announced plans for 3.0-compatible products earlier this year.

TI would not say which manufacturers it is working with on the Puma 5. Existing customers for its DOCSIS chips include Arris Group and Motorola.
