TV Guide Online Video Awards to Debut

Event to Honor Programming Created Specifically for the Web

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 6/27/2007 2:25:00 PM

Gemstar-TV Guide International will launch the TV Guide Online Video Awards, an annual awards franchise that will recognize the best and most innovative professional video programming created specifically for the Web.

TV Guide will dedicate its numerous cross-platform resources, which reach 73 million unique consumers per week, to promotion and coverage of the Online Video Awards, making this a true multiplatform initiative.

The Online Video Awards will honor the best professionally produced programming and other entertainment content that aired online, or in other digital media, between January and this October. Consumers will have the opportunity to vote in some categories, and TV Guide editors will select the winners in others. Categories will cover a broad spectrum including comedy, drama and animation, as well as unique categories that will recognize the Web’s most provocative and unexpected video content.

TV Guide will provide extensive cross-platform coverage of the Online Video Awards, starting with the nomination process all the way through to the announcement of the winners. Starting in October, consumers will be able to access the nominated clips in all categories at TVGuide.com.

In addition, TV Guide magazine, TV Guide Network and TV Guide Mobile will feature and promote the video entries with the fan voting taking place on TV Guide Online and through TV Guide Mobile.

Winners will be celebrated in a live evening event to take place in Los Angeles in early December. TV Guide Network will air a special exclusive two-hour program -- featuring its signature red-carpet interviews and full awards coverage -- a few days after the event.
