Apple, Nielsen/NetRatings, NPR and other companies in the “podcasting community” formed the Association for Downloadable Media to create a standard way to measure audience and advertising for episodic, downloadable media.
The ADM said it will focus primarily on advertising-supported podcasts and portable content. The consortium’s initial board of representatives will include representatives from the 15 founding companies: Apple, BlogTalkRadio, IndieFeed, Kiptronic, LibSyn, NPR, Nielsen/NetRatings, Personal Life Media, Podbridge, PodShow, PodTech, Podtrac, Porter Novelli, Rev3 and Vogele Law.
ADM said it will create committees to address advertising standards; measurement; outreach and education; terminology; and membership. It plans to collaborate with related industry organizations such as the Interactive Advertising Bureau and the American Association of Advertising Agencies.
