DirecTV, Time Warner Settle Lawsuit

Parties Keep Terms of Settlement Confidential

By Steve Donohue -- Multichannel News, 8/9/2007 10:39:00 AM

DirecTV said it has settled a lawsuit with Time Warner Cable involving allegations of false advertising.

Word of the settlement came as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit upheld a lower ruling that banned DirecTV from airing two TV spots that Time Warner deemed false and objectionable.

“This opinion has no relevance in this case because the parties had already settled the outstanding litigation on a basis that is mutually satisfactory. The specific terms are confidential,” DirecTV spokeswoman Jade Ekstedt said in a prepared statement.

“The opinion speaks for itself,” Time Warner Cable spokesman Mark Harrad said in a prepared statement. “Nonetheless, the parties are pleased that they have settled the outstanding litigation on a basis that is mutually satisfactory. The specific terms are confidential.”
