President Bush’s address on Iraq troop levels scored an 18.9 rating and attracted 28.8 million viewers, Nielsen Media Research said Friday.
Fox News Channel was the top all-news channel during the address, drawing 3.1 million viewers. That topped CNN (1.4 million) and MSNBC (976,000).
The president’s speech Thursday was carried live on nine national television networks, namely ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, Telemundo and Univision.
With all networks combined, Bush’s national address, from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., had 21.3 million homes tuned in and did a 32 share.
Those numbers were well below the viewership for Bush’s Jan. 10 address on Iraq, which did a 27.5 rating and drew 42.5 million viewers.
