Cox Agrees to Add TBS in HD, CNN HD

Deal Allows Cable Firm to Show Baseball Playoffs in High Definition

By Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 10/4/2007 6:40:00 AM

Cox Communications said Thursday it signed a distribution deal to add Turner Broadcasting's TBS in HD and CNN HD in the cable operator's markets.

Cox and Time Warner-owned Turner did not spell out where and when the two networks would roll out. But Cox did confirm that TBS launched widely in time for the first of Major League Baseball's American League and National League divisional playoff games on Wednesday. TBS is airing those games, and the National League Championship Series, for the first time this year.

Local reports bear out the TBS in HD launches. For example, The Roanoake Times reported Cox added TBS in HD on Wednesday.

And a legal notice published in San Diego said Cox was adding TBS in HD there officially on Nov. 1, but that it could be view on a "special preview" as of Wednesday.

CNN HD launch information was not immediately available.
