CMT Boosts Vote Count For ‘Music City Madness’

4 Million Votes Cast Online in User-Generated Talent Search

-- Multichannel News, 12/11/2007 11:18:00 AM

CMT’s Web site logged more than 4 million votes for a popularity contest choosing among 64 country music videos submitted by would-be George Joneses and Tammy Wynettes, including eventual winner 13-year-old Katelyn Jolley of Clinton, Utah.

Jolley will receive an expenses-paid trip to CMT’s Nashville studio to record an episode of Unplugged at Studio 330, CMT.com’s online performance series, and a private audition with Sony BMG Nashville recording executives.

Last year, a similar “Music City Madness” competition drew 1.2 million votes, according to CMT. This year’s online competition expanded to include a CMT TV special hosted by American Idol finalist Bucky Covington.

Jolley, a self-taught musician who began playing guitar this year, recorded a version of “This Game.” Her YouTube-style acceptance speech can be viewed at CMT.com.

The runnerup was Macy VanArnam, age 16, from New York.
