Gracie Awards Recognizes 27 Actresses, Shows

Winners Include Miley Cyrus, Holly Hunter, Florence Henderson

Twenty-seven cable-network programs or stars – including Miley Cyrus, Holly Hunter and Florence Henderson -- have been named winners of the 2008 Gracie Awards by American Women in Radio & Television.

The national awards recognize exemplary programming created for and by women in all forms of electronic media, encouraging the realistic and multifaceted portrayal of women in entertainment, commercials, news, features and other programs. They will be distributed at a gala dinner in New York City’s Marriott Marquis Hotel on May 28.

Winners in cable were, in alphabetical order:

Army Wives on Lifetime Television; Ashleigh Banfield of Court TV (now tru tv); Black History Month: Jay-Z (commercial) on mtvU; CNN Heroes: An All Star Tribute; CNN Presents: God’s Warriors; Debra Messing in The Starter Wife on USA Network; E! True Hollywood Story: Kathy Griffin; End Violence Women Campaign (public service) on Lifetime; ESPN SportsCenter: The Fugees; Florence Henderson in The Florence Henderson Show on Retirement Living TV; Greenspan: Power, Money & The American Dream on CNBC; Half Of Us Special Featuring Mary J. Blige on mtvU; Holly Hunter in Saving Grace on TNT; Judy Davis in USA’s The Starter Wife; Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana on Disney Channel; Nancy Miller, producer, TNT’s Saving Grace; One 2 One With Kay Yow on CSTV (now CBS College Sports Network); Paula Deen with Paula’s Home Cooking on Food Network; Queen Latifah in Life Support on HBO; Rory Kennedy (director) with Ghosts of Abu Ghraib on HBO; Showbiz Tonight: Better With Age on Headline News; The Backyardigans on Nickelodeon; The Suze Orman Show on CNBC; Tu Pride: Melissa, Talesha, Elan (commercial) on MTV Tr3s; Wedding Central on WE tv; Where’s Molly on CNN and Who Cares About Girls (documentary) on Oxygen Media.
