FearNet Scares Up Insight Launch

Addition of 300,000 Subs Pushes VOD Availability Past 17 Million Plateau

-- Multichannel News, 3/3/2008 6:38:00 PM

FearNet has signed Insight Communications to its distribution roster.

Under the deal, terms of which were not disclosed, the horror/thriller video-on-demand service and Web site became available to 300,000 Insight subscribers in Louisville, Columbus, Ohio and Evansville, Ind. today.

With the March 3 rollout, FearNet, a joint venture of Comcast, Sony Pictures Television and Lionsgate, counts some 17 million VOD subscribers through carriage contracts with parent Comcast, Cox Communications and Verizon FiOS.

“We are continuing to fill a niche in the marketplace that is attracting an ever-growing, influential audience,” said FearNet president Diane Robina in a statement. “With this expanded cable distribution, FearNet again proves that horror and thriller content has appeal to large cross-section of the population. With the new households provided by Insight Communications, we will be able further bolster our multi-platform audience to become a mass-niche.”
