SureWest Picks ADB Set-Tops

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 4/24/2008 2:43:00 PM

California-based SureWest Communications has selected Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB) to supply high-definition IPTV digital video recorders.

SureWest, in Roseville, Calif., provides IPTV service -- featuring 50 HD channels -- over a fiber-to-the-premise IP network. The telco, which services more than 130,000 access lines, also offers symmetrical Internet connections of up to 50 Megabits per second.

The ADB-5810WX DVR units enable SureWest to offer customers new features including access to both HD and standard-definition channels; pausing and rewinding live television; and recording two MPEG-4 HD channels while watching a third from the disk drive.

“SureWest selected ADB as a result of its proven ability to supply reliable, state-of-the-art technology," SureWest chief technology officer Bill DeMuth said. “The customer response has already been excellent and we are extremely enthusiastic that the launch of our DVR service will enhance our product portfolio, optimize revenues and provide our customers with a clear migration path to more advanced and competitive digital entertainment services."

The 5000-series DVRs from Geneva, Switzerland-based ADB provide MPEG-2 and H.264/MPEG-4 AVC support and have received DLNA and UPnP certifications.
