'This Old House' Crew Works On DIY’s ‘Blog Cabin’

O’Connor, Cook Lend Hand As Viewers From Shows Can Now Influence Construction

By Linda Haugsted -- Multichannel News, 5/6/2008 9:38:00 AM

The experts from This Old House will collaborate for the first time on an episode of DIY Network's Blog Cabin, the home construction show that takes its directions from viewers responding online.

This Old House host Kevin O'Connor and landscape contractor Roger Cook will join Blog Cabins's host Ahmed Hassan to build a fire pit at a vacation home constructed for the show. Fans from both shows can vote on the design of the project through May 18 at www.DIYNetwork.com. The team will build the winning feature on June 18 at the show site at Lakefront Estates in Spring City, Tenn. The episode featuring the This Old House crew will not air until Sept. 18.

When the house is completed, viewers who enter a sweepstakes at the DIY site will have a chance to win the home.

In the year since Blog Cabin debuted, more than 4.2 million votes have been cast to guide show designers on 13 features of that season's home construction. More than three million people entered last year's sweepstakes, and the site got 1.2 million page views. In all, 25% of users of DIY's Web site interacted with the Blog Cabin content, according to the network.
