“After that, the real work begins for Verizon. Residents are concentrated in New York City, meaning many potential customers, but each building presents an engineering challenge, as does the city’s aging infrastructure itself.”
Michael Learmoth, Silicon Alley Insider http://www.alleyinsider.com.
Looks Like They Can Make It There“Verizon says it will recoup its investment through fees to subscribers (and, yes, that sounds a bit ominous if you’re looking forward to using FiOS, perhaps, but scale and existing competition should serve to contain prices a bit). For Verizon, it’s an opportunity to build a network it won’t ever have to share or bid on ever again — a potential bottomless ATM machine. Once there, it’s done: Full access to the largest cable market in the nation.”
Jim O’Neill, Fierce Telecom http://www.fiercetelecom.com/
No Sleep ’Til Brooklyn?“Bay Ridge [Brooklyn] isn’t even listed as a potential deployment area for FiOS TV in the next five years. …
Verizon has been announcing FiOS in New York City since September 2005. It is now putting out press releases with celebrities and ordinary people, with the slogan, 'This is Verizon FiOS. This is big.’
Excuse me, but I think the second part of the slogan should be, 'This is bull.’ ”

Hey, You Won The World Series“Today, Verizon announced plans to bring FiOS to New York City. While this is a good thing, it is not the news that we in Boston wanted to hear. Okay, so maybe the millions of potential subscribers makes New York somewhat more appealing to Verizon than the thousands that we have here in Boston.”
