Klum, ‘Mad Men’ Add Sparkle To Peabodys

Ceremony Honors 10 Cable Nets In NYC

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 6/17/2008 1:05:00 PM

New York—The Peabody Awards ceremony Monday had a special touch of glamour, with Project Runway’s supermodel host Heidi Klum and the cast of AMC’s Mad Men on hand to pick up their tributes.

In total, 10 cable networks were among the 35 Peabody winners, receiving their awards during a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria, captured in this online photo gallery.

Bravo’s Project Runway was the first reality-contest show to win a Peabody, and the show’s producer, Harvey Weinstein, waved the show’s cast and crew onstage, including a reluctant Klum.

When she finally made her way to the podium, the model-entrepreneur blamed her footwear for her initial reluctance to go onstage.

“It’s not that I didn’t want to come, but these shoes are just built for sitting, not walking,” said Klum, who was wearing sky-high black shoes and a white gown.

Mad Men also nabbed a Peabody, and lead actor Jon Hamm was there to accept, as were his fellow cast members January Jones, Christina Hendricks, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Karthheiser and John Slattery and the show’s creator-writer, Matthew Weiner.

True to form, Stephen Colbert (pictured) was a cut-up when he accepted his award for The Colbert Report on Comedy Central.

He referenced his short-lived campaign to run for president in his home state of South Carolina, “which I found out through this campaign is just a notch above Nicaragua.”
