‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Contest Coming To Animal Planet

Beth Ostrosky Will Host Network’s Special In October

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 6/17/2008 3:29:00 PM

Animal Planet Tuesday announced it will broadcast the “World’s Ugliest Dog Competition” in October with Beth Ostrosky—the future Mrs. Howard Stern—serving as the special’s host.

A fixture of the Sonoma-Marin Fair and now in its 20th year, the “World’s Ugliest Dog Competition” fetches pet-owners and audiences from around the nation to Petaluma, Calif., where judges determine which dog deserves the title as leader of the ugly pack. This year's "winner" will be crowned June 20.

Among this year’s contestants are 2007 title-holder and formerly homeless dog, Elwood, from Seawell, N.J; Buster, a hairless tea cup Chihuahua from Millbrae, Calif.; a Frankendog named Reggie; and newcomer Princess Chelsea.

“Every dog deserves a chance to shine, and these dogs need love and attention just like any other, and I think in the show, people will see how much they give to their owners in return,” Ostrosky, a model and animal activist, said in a statement. “I think all of the contestants I've seen so far are beautiful and I can't wait to shower them with love.”

Ostrosky is engaged to Sirius Satellite Radio's Howard Stern.

The “World’s Ugliest Dog Competition 2008” will be produced by Wholly Cow Productions for Animal Planet. Lisa Silver and Rick Silver are the executive producers for Wholly Cow Productions and Dawn Sinsel is the executive producer for Animal Planet.
