The Africa Channel will make its first launch with Time Warner Cable next month in the Los Angeles DMA

The network, which secured a national affiliation pact last November with the nation’s second-largest cable operator that gave it the opportunity for distribution on the MSO’s systems, will bow July 29 on channel 176.

The parties said the network will be available via Time Warner Cable’s LA Metro division, encompassing the cities of South and West L.A., Artesia, Athens, Baldwin Hills, Bell, Bellflower, Bell Gardens, Carson, Claremont, Compton, Covina, Cudahy, Culver City, Downey, Harbor, Hawaiian Gardens, Hollywood, Inglewood, Kagel Canyon, Ladera Heights, Lakewood, La Mirada, Lakeview Terrace, Lennox, Lomita, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, Playa Del Rey, Playa Vista, Pomona, Santa Fe Springs, South el Monte, Sunland, Sylmar, Tujunga, Westchester and Wilshire.

“Obviously, Los Angeles is a very important market for The Africa Channel and we are delighted to be launching in our hometown on Time Warner Cable,” said Eric Brown, Africa Channel’s executive vice president of affiliate sales. “For the first time ever, Time Warner Cable’s Los Angeles viewers will be able to enjoy The Africa Channel’s rich and diverse slate of programming never before seen in the United States, providing an entertaining and enlightening window into modern day Africa.”

Noted Time Warner Cable Metro Division president division Jeffrey Hirsch: “Time Warner Cable is looking forward to adding The Africa Channel to our rich lineup of quality programming. We know TWC customers across Los Angeles will benefit from The Africa Channel’s unique educational, cultural and entertaining shows.”

The Africa Channel features 1,800 hours of programming that spans news and information, travel and lifestyle, music, soap operas, talk shows, reality, feature films and special events.

Series include the travel show Africa Within and Studio 53; reality series Project Fame Africa and All You Need is Love; dramas Generations, Jacob’s Cross and Isidingo; the interview series Conversations with Felicia; the news fare Africa Journal; and the daily Africa Music series.
