Mojo Provides Definition To Olympians

10-Part, High-Def Profile Series Of U.S. Athletes Begins July 28

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 7/7/2008 1:18:00 PM

Mojo HD is getting into the Olympic spirit with a series of profiles on some of the U.S. athletes that have a chance to medal in Beijing.

Working with USA Today Live, the TV arm of the national newspaper, Mojo has created a 10-part, all high-definition series exploring the mindsets and motivations of athletes from an array of different sports.

A Shot at Glory premieres nationally on Mojo HD, starting July 28 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) and airs every weekday evenings through Aug. 8 at 9 p.m. (the opening ceremonies take place that night). The network will also air weekend marathons with episodes to be announced at a later point.

Moreover, the partnership will yield coordinated articles about the athletes within USA Today's special Olympic sports section during the two weeks leading up to the Games.

The athletes being profiled, beginning with wrestling’s Daniel Cormier on July 28: BMX biker Donny Robinson; track and field’s Tyson Gay and Wallace Spearmon; boxing’s Gary Russell, Jr.; beach volleyball’s Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs; triathlon’s Laura Bennett; canoe/kayak’s Brett Heyl; gymnastics’ Samantha Peszek; and swimming’s Kate Ziegler.

Shot at Glory also features candid interviews with high-profile medal winners about their life experiences and what it truly requires to be the best in their discipline, including boxing’s Sugar Ray Leonard; track’s Jackie Joyner-Kersee; gymnastics’ Mary Lou Retton; beach volleyball’s Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor; BMX’s Mike King; kayaking’s Scott Schipley; swimming’s Amy Van Dyken; triathlon’s Susan Williams and wrestling’s John Smith.

Additionally, experts in each sport will be featured, detailing the psychological and body strength needed to compete; how to overcome injuries and setbacks and how these new competitors compare with previous champions.
