Lifetime Rolls Out ‘Every Woman Counts’ Bus Tour

Network Seeks Out Political Commentary From Women Ahead of November General Election

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 8/4/2008 11:21:00 AM

Lifetime Networks Monday announced the launch of the “Every Woman Counts” bus tour which will make 14 stops in 11 different markets, providing women with an opportunity to register to vote and sound off on the upcoming presidential election by uploading videos to the network’s YouTube channel.

Network officials said women hopping aboard the bus will be asked to declare what they would do if they were president and discuss the topics and issues most important to them as Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain hit the campaign trail.

The bus tour will also hit Denver and Minneapolis/St. Paul, the host cities for the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, where the network will host a series of high-profile “Every Woman Counts” events.

At each stop, women can register to vote at myLifetime.com, watch “Lifetime Every Woman Counts” public service announcements and “If I were president…” vignettes from celebrities such as Reba McIntyre, Queen Latifah, Jewel and other celebrities. Highlights from Lifetime programming, including hit series Army Wives and original broadband series will also be shown.

“Lifetime and our partners are dedicated to sparking a national dialogue among women and equipping them with the tools necessary to engage them in politics,” Meredith Wagner, Lifetime’s executive vice president of public affairs, said in a statement. “The bus tour was created to connect with women in their hometowns on the issues that matter most to them and to inspire them to register and vote. Thirty-five million eligible women did not vote in the 2004 presidential election, and we are committed to changing this statistic as part of our ‘Every Woman Counts’ campaign.”

Viewers at home can also track the “Every Woman Counts” YouTube bus on its trip around the country and can access the Lifetime channel on YouTube at www.everywomancounts08.com.
